Having reemerged within a forest inhabited by frogmen and other monsters—and supplied with only two products—Boxxo the Vending Machine requires coins to keep itself stocked, powered, and upgraded with new skills.

Luckily, the automat is rescued by a young woman who quickly realizes that it is sentient, and she carries it to a human settlement. Thereafter, the strange piece of machinery gradually makes an impact in the world around it, gaining numerous allies along the way despite being utterly incapable of speech or movement and communicating only by playing out pre-recorded vending machine phrases.

Introduction

Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon—also known in Japanese as Jidouhanbaiki ni Umarekawatta Ore wa Meikyuu wo Samayou—is an isekai anime that delivers one of the most unusual isekai twist concepts fans have seen in recent years. Blending fantasy anime, adventure anime, and comedy fantasy isekai elements, it stands out by featuring an object-protagonist anime rather than a typical hero.

The story follows Boxxo (the vending machine protagonist), who was reincarnated as a vending machine after the protagonist was a vending machine otaku in his previous life. Immobile in his new body but equipped with magical upgrades, Boxxo survives by stocking and dispensing items from previous life & survival via points system while communication via stock vending machine phrases (“Welcome,” “Too bad”) adds humor to this survival in fantasy world scenario.

The first season, titled Reborn as a Vending Machine Season 1, debuted in July 2023, quickly gaining traction among fans and being covered on platforms like isekai.fandom.com, Isekai Wiki, reborn-as-a-vending-machine.fandom.com, Anime Senpai, and OtakuKart. Produced by Studio Gokumi & AXsiZ, it featured the catchy opening theme “Fanfare” by BRADIO and the charming ending song “Itsumo no Soup” by Peel the Apple.

With dungeon wandering / exploring labyrinths, dungeon travel & monsters, humor from absurd premises, and a growing bond between Boxxo and Lammis (hunter girl companion) along with Hakkon (character name), the anime captured a loyal audience. After its success, Reborn as a Vending Machine Season 2 was confirmed, with the Season 2 premiere July 2025 expected to continue this magic and fantasy upgrades journey.

Plot Summary

The story of Reborn as a Vending Machine introduces one of the most unexpected takes on the isekai anime genre. Instead of a typical hero wielding a sword, the protagonist was a vending machine otaku in his former life, and after a tragic accident, he was reincarnated as a vending machine in a mysterious fantasy realm. Known as Boxxo (the vending machine protagonist), he is immobile in new body but with magical upgrades, making him both useful and hilariously limited at the same time.

Set in a world full of dungeon wandering / exploring labyrinths, monsters, and adventurers, the series blends fantasy anime, adventure anime, and comedy fantasy isekai elements seamlessly. With his only means of interaction being communication via stock vending machine phrases (“Welcome,” “Too bad”), Boxxo survives by stocking and dispensing items from previous life & survival via points system, turning what seems like a strange curse into a clever survival strategy.

Alongside Boxxo is Lammis (hunter girl companion), a strong fighter who can carry him on her back, and Hakkon (character name), adding emotional depth to the journey. Together, they face dungeon travel & monsters while uncovering secrets of this magical world, creating a mix of action, humor, and heartfelt moments that define this object-protagonist anime with its unusual isekai twist.

The first season, Reborn as a Vending Machine Season 1, introduced audiences to this bizarre yet charming tale, while the confirmed Reborn as a Vending Machine Season 2 set for the Season 2 premiere July 2025 promises to expand on the survival in fantasy world theme with even more magic and fantasy upgrades and humor from absurd premises.

Main Characters & Cast

At the heart of Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon is Boxxo (the vending machine protagonist), a character unlike any in traditional isekai anime. After being reincarnated as a vending machine, he becomes the series’ most unusual hero. Boxxo can’t walk, talk normally, or fight in the conventional sense, yet through clever survival tactics like stocking and dispensing items from previous life & survival via points system, he wins the hearts of fans.

Supporting him is Lammis (hunter girl companion), known for her strength and kindness. She carries Boxxo through dungeon wandering / exploring labyrinths and battles dangerous creatures while sharing emotional and comedic moments with him. Another key figure is Hakkon (character name), who adds to the story’s charm and the theme of object reincarnation.

For voice talent, the Japanese version features Studio Gokumi & AXsiZ productions with memorable performances, while the English dub brings in equally passionate actors. The music elements include the Opening theme “Fanfare” by BRADIO and Ending theme “Itsumo no Soup” by Peel the Apple, both enhancing the comedy fantasy isekai tone.

As Reborn as a Vending Machine Season 1 gained popularity, excitement for Reborn as a Vending Machine Season 2 ahead of the Season 2 premiere July 2025 continues to grow among fans of fantasy anime, adventure anime, and even object-protagonist anime enthusiasts seeking an unusual isekai twist with humor from absurd premises and magic and fantasy upgrades in a survival in fantasy world setting.
