Pokémon: The First Movie – Mewtwo Strikes Back in Hindi — that movie where a genetically engineered supersoldier Pokémon, Mewtwo, questions the entire trainer-paradox, and Ash has to sacrifice his own life to prove what true friendship really means — and watching this scene made kids cry in the 90s, and they still cry today.
The story follows Mewtwo — a legendary Pokémon created in a lab from Mew’s DNA. Confused about his own existence and identity, he invites the world’s strongest trainers to an island for a “Pokémon battle like never before.” But the real twist is that he creates clones of their Pokémon — and then an original vs clone fight begins. Mewtwo’s question is: if a clone is stronger than the original, does the original’s existence become meaningless? And then comes Mew — the original legendary who arrives to give Mewtwo a reality check. Ash’s sacrifice scene — where he turns to stone in the middle of the fight — is iconic and still emotional to this day.
This is a movie, not a series — runtime is 1 hour 23 minutes (75 minutes for the original cut) and it is completed. It was released in Japan on July 18, 1998.
